Donor Bike Tear Down

Today I'm sharing some photos of the tear down of my donor bike. I haven't posted for a month and a half, because of an injury. Tripped  backward over a cat, bruised my hip, and popped the disc out of my knee. Took this long to get back right.  Got the bike most of the way tore down, labeled all connections and hoses. Feels good to get back to my trike.

REVERSE GEARBOX AND DRIVESHAFTS ARE HERE....:D

Today i got a box from Triking in Great Britain. A friend had given me the designs to build my own, But for my first build, and it being such a crucial part, I opted for a commercial built model. And with it being right between me and my passenger, I think I made the right choice.

Donor Bike is Coming Home

My Donor bike has been in the next town over since before the lock down. This week it was given a full physical at my friends garage, fluids changed and checked, filter changed, electrical checked, all mechanical functions checked. Tomorrow I can bring it home. Then document the full tear down, photos and labeling every connection. This virus stuff has put a kink in my time schedule, it's time to play catch up.

It is almost a shame to tear it apart, but with under 20k miles on it, I am comfortable using it.

Morgan Suspension Build, Part 6

This is the final post on front suspension for now, I made and welded new top wishbones.  I also changed the upper and lower ball joint. all for better strength and more clearance. I opted for a weld in threaded fitting in the top A-arms. Just waiting on one upper ball joint.

Morgan Suspension Build, Part 5

Since my last post, I made and welded all the anchor points for the front suspension and shocks. This has been a great learning curve. Well after mounting the upper and lower A-arms, to the front knuckles/spindles, I have some concerns. The threads on the upper ball joint are two inches long, but only an inch will be used, combined with shock clearance at a minimum, I'm contemplating making new upper wishbones, that are 3/4"(20mm) longer. This would give more clearance for the shocks, and leave less exposed thread on the upper ball joint. at the same time, I may upgrade the lower ball joint to something with a better/ stronger mounting.

Morgan Suspension Build, Part 4

I have been busy this week, revising and building the wishbones for my suspension. Getting materials together during this lock down has been the most challenging. I had two problems, first was the plate steel, I could only find 4 x8 sheets, which was out of the question, so I welded up flat stock instead. The other problem was the battery went out on my auto darkening hood. It took me three days to find a battery at a Lowes, a couple towns over, and it must have been on the shelf for a while, because it only lasted a few days. luckily a ordered some and they came in yesterday. But here are some build pictures.

Started welding A-arms for trike

I started building the A-arm / wish bones for my Morgan replica. I finished one upper wishbone before the battery in my viking auto darkening hood went out. I will try to get a replacement tomorrow. But here are some update photos.
